Description
Beatstep Cowboys is a two player game that combines quick real-time strategy, and rhythm-based game play. Players quickly plan moves that are then carried out simultaneously to the beat of the music. The goal: move around the field and kill your opponent first. Beatstep Cowboys thrives on creating close calls and surprise. The result is a competitive game that is easy enough for a little kid to pick up, but provides advanced players the opportunity to stretch the limits of their logical and predictive thinking.
History
The game was first developed by JD Minoong Ji with two other teammates at the 2015 Global Game Jam. The prototype received press attention, including being featured in Rock Paper Shotgun. JD, a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center, assembled a team with Amy Stewart and King Kong Zhang to pitch the game to faculty as a semester project with the goal of creating a full polished version of the game that expanded on the levels, music, and character classes. The pitch was approved, and work on the new version began in January 2016. With guidance from faculty advisors, the team has developed the new version with an eye to preserving what made the original version so compelling.

Loaded Cow is an indie game developer created by graduates of Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center and based in Pittsburgh, PA. Loaded Cow creates unique musical gameplay experiences by combining music gameplay and aesthetic with non-traditional action genres. The result are quirky, addictive games.
